BOENMED® Thyroid Drape
BOENMED® Thyroid Drape

BOENMED manufactures Thyroid Drape. Thyroid Drape is a specialized sterile drape designed exclusively for thyroid and parathyroid gland surgery.

Features & Benefits:
The fenestration is cut in a diamond shape and aligns perfectly with the natural skin tension lines and typical collar (Kocher) incision made across the lower neck. This provides the surgeon with optimal exposure of the surgical site with minimal drape bunching.
The adhesive around the fenestration is crucial. It creates a watertight and bacteria-proof seal to the skin, preventing contamination from the neck (which is close to the mouth and trachea) into the deep surgical wound.
A large absorbent pad is placed directly on the patient's upper chest. It soaks up a considerable amount of any blood or irrigation fluid that may run down from the incision. This keeps the patient dry, prevents fluid from pooling, and protects the sterile field from contamination via fluid wicking.
Velcro straps are used for organizing the numerous cords and tubes required in modern thyroid surgery
Large-size drape creates a wide, long sterile field that covers the patient from the chin down over the chest and upper abdomen.

Applications:
The thyroid drape is used during open thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy procedures, where an incision is made in the lower anterior neck to access the thyroid gland. Typically used in:
Total or Hemi-thyroidectomy (removal of all or half of the thyroid gland)
Lobectomy
Parathyroidectomy (removal of overactive parathyroid glands)
Thyroidectomy with neck dissection (for cancer)
