What Is A Press Needle?
What are press needles used for?
The Press Needle, also known as a press tack needle or ear needle. The special needles look like a miniature thumbtack or drawing pin. Press needles are tiny and come with an adhesive backing, resembling small band-aids. They are designed to be placed on the skin and left in place for a period of time, typically several days.
The press needle is often used for ear acupuncture (auriculotherapy) and body acupuncture, particularly for shallow or superficial points. These needles are particularly useful for conditions like smoking cessation, weight loss, and stress management.
Compared to acupuncture, the press needle body is smaller and slender, which can reduce pain and prolong the therapeutic effect through longer needle retention. Therefore, it is less traumatic, more acceptable to patients, and more convenient for clinical use.
Press needle therapy belongs to the category of superficial needling and is a type of intradermal needle therapy. It is a novel acupuncture tool that combines traditional acupuncture techniques with modern technology. The press needle has the advantages such as simple and safe operation, minimal trauma, low pain levels, and prolonged effects.
